The death of Commissioner of Police Okello Wilfred Makmot has got Ugandans by surprise; and some say it’s normal.
According to official communication from Ministry of Internal Affairs on Wednesday, Okello died while in transit from Dubai.
“We have received communication from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs originating from the Ugandan Embassy in Abu Dhabi that the above named officer died while in transit from New York, USA to Uganda via Dubai.
We have been requested to inform the relatives of the deceased and make arrangements for the body to be repatriated to Uganda,” a communication dated 11, July, 2018 by Aggrey Wunyi for Permanent Secretary reads in part.
Okello was the National Focal Point person for Small Arms and Light Weapons at the Ministry of Internal Affairs before passing on mysteriously on the 9, July this year.
Emmanuel Adonyo says: “Very sad indeed. I met Makmot during the Lango Development forum [LDF] dinner of 2017 at Namboole. Very composed and a very smart gentleman. Rest in Peace, son of Lango.”
Andrew Omara says: “Max is my longtime neighbor. My condolences to the family and May the Lord JC strengthen them during this trying moment. MHSRIP.”
Beatrice Lagada condoles: “This death has thrown me in real depression. I’ve asked so many Why’s without any answer. When I last talked to Comm. Makmot, was in a very cheerful mood. Told me he was going to the States and would not come back until first week of July. When I asked him to bring me only a chocolate, he teased me about it! O death, surely you are a bad reaper! Why do you leave nasty people and harvest good ones!!”
