Lira-The Acting Director of Uganda Martyrs University [UMU] Ngetta campus has assured the community of employment opportunities once [UMU]-Ngetta Campus is officially opened in August this year.
Speaking during the second meeting of Uganda Martyrs University Alumni Association Lango, Chapter, Francis Ogwal, the acting director assures that once the university opens, a number of people will be employed especially the alumnus.
Ogwal urged the Uganda Martyrs University alumnus to continue promoting the University so that students can enroll.
“The Alumni should take advantage of the association to create a social network which will in turn help them,” he said.
“Employment is going to be there in Ngetta. Right now we have a very small skeleton of staff. It’s going to be there and now whom do you think we shall give? We shall start from those we know like you before we can recruit more,” he added.
According to him, former students are very instrumental to the university because they are the brand ambassadors of the university.
“You see we are in the world of connection, networking, we are also in the world of rampant unemployment and these days you may have papers but if you have no connection you have no job, you may just be there. Somebody known is better than an angle that you don’t know so that’s just to emphasize the point that let us get together in this association- it will help in many ways,” he further urged.
Speaking at the same meeting, Lira former RDC, Mr. Ewai George who is also an alumnus of Uganda Martyrs University requested the university management to lobby for courses at masters levels, Post Graduate diplomas and also evening classes in order to bring in more students.
“The kind of courses offered at the university will either repel or attract students,” Ewai revealed.
Morris Odong Omara another alumnus and the former Mayor of Lira Municipality expressed his optimism in turning Uganda Martyrs University Ngetta Campus into a centre of academic excellence, producing graduates who can bring transformation to the country.
“We want to see it transformed into powerful machinery that will contribute immensely to the human resource development of this country.
