Suspects escape from detention with gun after punching night guard

Lira-Two suspects who were all detained on allegation of aggravated robbery at Oyam Central Police Station have fled.

Atim Robert, 38, and Ochan Benard, 30, all residents of Acimi village, Myene Sub County in Oyam district were arrested and detained at Oyam CPS on above case vide CRB 239/2018.

David Ongom Mudong, the Police spokesperson for North Kyoga region has confirmed.

Mudong says the suspects who escaped from safe detention on Sunday at 1830hrs, grabbed the gun No.POL 564804 28-24076 from Police Constable, Aluku Daniel No.60755.

Mudong added that Aluku, who was working that evening as a cell guard was hit on his hind head with the gun barrel before the suspects disappeared.

“The duet was expected to appear in Court today 2 June, 2018. They are still at large but have been charged with robbery and escapes from lawful custody vide CRB 260/2018,” Police spokesperson added.

On the other hand, Police Constable Aluku Daniel has also been charged with aiding escape from lawful custody vide CRB 10/2/7/2018.
