The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago through his Personal Assistant has written to Police chief, IGP Martin Okoth Ochola revealing assassination threats targeting Lukwago.
Elvis Kintu in his letter dated 27 June this year titled ‘RE: LORD MAYOR’S SECURITY’, Kintu says ‘these terrorizations can’t be taken for granted but contemplated about as stern warning’.
His letter further reads: “As the country continues to witness assassinations, we have received
assassination threats via social media; particularly from Facebook to the person of Lord Mayor, Lukwago Erias as evinced in the attachment. THE PURPOSE OF THIS LETTER therefore, is to entreat your office to accordingly scrutinize and investigate the contentions therein; and most importantly boost the Lord Mayor’s security with immediate effect. We can’t take these terrorizations for granted but contemplate about them as stern warning.”
Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima was not available for comment whether there is arrangement to boost Lukwago with more guards as requested in a letter to IGP Okoth Ochola.
On Tuesday, President Museveni while meeting MPs promised them massive security protection. This follows recent killings of high profile people in the country.
The legislators also told Mr. Museveni that they have been receiving death threats on social media and through SMS.
Soon, the President ordered General David Muhoozi, the Chief of Defense Forces [CDF] and head of Parliamentary Police, Nyamahoro Anabella to collaborate and enforce his directive.
