The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has urged the public to understand Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) tax policies and use the amendments to grow their businesses and invest in the manufacturing sector.
Kadaga, who was the guest of honor, delivered the advice on May 18 this year during the 3rd consecutive engagements organized by URA to explain the 2018-2019 tax policies and their implications on tax payers and the public.
Under the theme: “Benefit from National Budget”, Speaker Kadaga said Ugandans have high potential to become billionaires and big investors only if the opportunities in the budget are used.
“I would like to thank URA for giving the public an opportunity to understand the tax policies and amendments,” she said at Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja town where the event was held.
Ian Rumanyika, Manager Public and Corporate Affairs at URA say the similar event was conducted in districts of Masaka, Arua, Fort Portal and Kampala.
“Tax policies aside, participants were informed about the opportunities in the national budget over the past five years, and key sectors with growth and investment opportunities. Free practical tax and financial advisory services for informed decision making were dispensed,” Mr. Rumanyika said.
The event was attended by over 1500 participants including Members of Parliament, local leaders and senior management team of the tax body.
