A fatal road accident at Namayonjo village, Nakasongola along the Kampala- Gulu highway has claimed the lives of five people while three others sustained critical injuries.
TND News understands that the accident involving two cars, a Toyota Hiace registration number UBD 061D belonging to Pepsi Cola ‘Twangula promotion’, a Pick-Up UAX 182F loaded with chicken and an unidentified motorcycle occurred on Tuesday at around 10:50 pm.
Those confirmed dead are two brothers Ivan Buyinza and Bernard Bakobe Ssekeba. They are all residents of Namayonjo village.
They were riding a motorbike from Wabigalo Trading Centre to their home when the tragedy occurred.
The other victims who were transporting accident had not been identified by the time of filing this story.
An eye wittiness says that the driver of the Twangula Toyota Hiace van that was headed to Gulu lost control while trying to dodge a pothole and knocked the motorcyclist.
“The vehicle then collided with the pickup which was heading in the opposite direction.”
According to Paul Kangave, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, Police officers from Nakasongola Central Police Station rushed to the scene and transferred the injured to Nakasongola Military Hospital for treatment.
The dead were taken to Nakasongola Health Center IV.
Kangave says that Police managed to clear the road to ease transport. The wreckage of the cars and motorbike were towed to Nakasongola Central Police Station at night.
This is the 7th fatal road accident to have occurred on Gulu-Kampala highway in less than amonth, claiming 28 lives combined and wounding many.
