Greening Spectrum Launches ‘One Tree Per Child’ Campaign

The people of Lango sub region have been advised to plant more trees in a bid to fight climate change.

Mrs. Adeline Elem, the Director Greening Spectrum, an organization working to conserve the environment advised.

This was during a belated World Environment Day fete held on Saturday in Lira Municipality

At the fete, a  project dubbed ‘One Tree per Child’ was launched and witnessed by hundreds of residents from Adyel division.

The project is aimed at planting more trees in schools across Lango and to conserve environment against hazards.

It was attended by pupils and  teachers of Otim Tom primary school in the municipality.

“All of us here, we will agree and say that we are not going to be like Donald Trump who says this climate change issue is a joke; it is for real and once again the fight starts with you and that is why we have introduced this initiative of One Tree Per Child,” Elem said.

She called upon parents and the general public to plant more trees, urging parents to ensure that even their children plant trees too.

¨We at Greening Spectrum call upon each of us here to plant trees; and since adults seem to be failing, we are calling upon parents to help the children because they are the future,” she added.

Robert Okello Ayo, the Adyel division Town Clerk promised to support the initiative and to ensure that the successful growth of the trees in the division.

¨As Adyel division we are going to be good stewards. Thank you for all that you have done. I request that let all of us be concerned about our environment, it is our responsibility because nobody will come to clean for you your home. Let´s take it upon ourselves to ensure that where we live is clean. These trees we are planting today, all of us should be responsible, all of us will ensure that they grow so that in future we can also be proud of what we did during our leadership time, ¨ Okello Ayo noted.

This tree planting activity concluded at the division headquarters was preceded by a general cleanliness in Adyel division with the help of pupils from Otim Tom Primary School.
