A Uganda People’s Defense Forces soldier is under security custody after he was rescued from irate mob following the sudden death of a civilian on Monday.
Ogwal Moses (UPDF soldier) is reported to have had a fierce quarrel with one Aluku Boniface on Sunday 20 May this year at a drinking joint.
The drinking joint (also a home) belongs to a man only identified by Police as Alinga.
A brawl between Ogwal and the deceased took place at Beobwol village in Dokolo district from where they were drinking a local brew, Mogo-amoga.
David Ongom Mudong, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson confirmed the incident to TND News on Monday afternoon.
According to Mudong, the duo left the drinking joint and fought along the way.
“Ogwal Moses thereafter reported the case to Okure Geoffrey who’s the Local Council 1 Chairperson of the area that someone fought him along the way but fled. He was advised to go the following day when the matter would be handled,” Mudong added.
Shockingly, on Monday in the early morning, people going to their gardens found the dead body of Aluku Boniface along the road.
Mudong further added that locals silently mobilized themselves and arrested Ogwal Moses while he was still sleeping and battered him into coma.
“He was rescued by police and rushed to Dokolo Health Centre IV in coma where he is admitted under guards,” Police mouthpiece further said.
As inquiries continue, a murder case has been registered at Dokolo Central Police Station vide CRB: 325/2018
