Two women knocked dead by speeding car

Two mothers on Sunday evening lost their lives after being knocked by a speeding car that had lost control.

The women have identified as Akao Rose 65 and Akello Anna 45 all residents of Awilla cell, Atiki parish, Apac Sub-county in Apac district.

They were riding bicycles from Kayei landing site heading to Apac town when the accident happened.

An eyewitness accounts that the maroon double cabin registration number UAT 118H Land Cruiser model travelling from Lira and heading to Kungu Ferry point in Apac District knocked the deceased.

“It (car) came at a high speed and lost control at Awilla trading center along Akokoro road; knocked down the two women leaving them seriously injured,” an eyewitness said.

They were immediately rushed to Awila Clinic within the trading centre but they died shortly on arrival.

The North Kyoga police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the accident.

“It’s true the accident happened and the vehicle has been towed to Awilla police post but unfortunately, the driver is still on the run and the hunt for him continues,” Mudong said in an interview.

A case has been registered under TAR: 15/2018 at Awila Police Outpost in Apac district.
