Police at Lira Central Police Station is holding the director Giraffe supermarket along Oyite- Ojok Lane in Lira municipality and five other people on allegations of conning a total of Shs32.5m from a Kenyan broker.
Kisembo Dili Emma, who doubles as the managing director Health Centre Point and pastor, was arrested on Saturday following a trail on his dubious businesses.
Police said, on Wednesday May 9, Kisembo conned money from Mugisha Geoffrey under the pretense of supplying him with maize grain.
According to Mugisha, he was instructed by the accused to deposit the money in account registered as: New Life Health Services Ltd after inspecting and confirming that the grain exists.
“This man called me and showed me the bags of maize which I inspected myself and agreed to buy after seeing the quality. I had even arranged for the trailer meant to pick up the bags from the store so that is when I called him to pick the money but he said he cannot receive cash, he then told me to go to the bank together with his agent,” Mugisha said.
Mugisha said, it was then, that he was provided with the account details meant for the transactions, however things went bad.
“I checked the account details together with his colleague and the bank people. He told me that the account was not registered in his names so I had to check to verify. So after depositing the money, we went back to the store to start loading the bags on the trailer,” Mugisha said.
“ When Emma called and told us not to load the bags claiming that we have sent the money to a wrong account, I had to run back to the bank and checked again and found that it is the very account he had given me and that’s when the bank people advised me to go to police.” Mugisha added.
A report from police indicates Shs.3m was withdrawn instantly from Centenary Bank Mapera house in Kampala upon depositing.
It also stated that the accused confessed to having called his agents- Mangeni Charles and Kuluba Ali instructing them to disappear as police would be looking for them soon.
This confession then led to the arrest of the two agents on Sunday evening from different places within Lira Town.
