As lands ministry ponders with how to resolve the rift between Pakwach town council and Got Apwoyo Sub County in Nwoya district, Pakwach and Nwoya district land boards have been ordered not to issue land title certificates across borders.

The head of Complaint Handling Mechanism at the ministry of Lands and Urban Development Denis Obbo gave the directive.

Obbo, during an interview with this Reporter in Kampala said the locals and the land board officials do not understand the cadestory and administrative boundaries between the two districts of Pakwach and Nwoya hence the continuous border disputes in Got Apwoyo Sub County.

Obbo expressed disappointment that both district land boards have continued to issue land title certificates in Got Apwoyo, which should have been the responsibility of Nwoya district land board.

“ The problem is that, both district land boards have continued to issue land titles on land which is in Got Apwoyo which is not their duty,’’….Obbo said.

Nwoya district land board chairperson Zeru Babel Abuga blamed his counterparts in Pakwach- Nebbi district for continuing to issue the certificates on land that is under Nwoya district.

Pakwach LCV chairperson Robert Omito Steen accused the lands ministry of what he described as untimely intervention adding that lives and properties have been lost because of the border disputes.

“We have always called for the ministry`s intervention to rescue the situation but, none of its officials comes to our rescue until lives and properties are lost. Then they say they are coming to solve the dispute that existed for years? Omito said.
