Lamogi Chief tells women to compulsorily use family planning

AMURU DISTRICT- Lamogi clan Chief Martin Otinga Otto Yai Otuka has directed Women, both single and married to embark on swallowing emergency pill or use different family planning methods to control high birth rate.

Chief Yai added that high number of children is leading his community into acute poverty and high gender base violence.

The Chief said that having many children in a home has left men to abandon women with nothing to feed on while they (men) enjoy waragi.

Currently on his sensitization tour of Lamogi, Otinga called for extension of family planning services nearer to the people especially those living in hard to reach areas.

Dr. Odong Olwedo Patrick, the District Health Officer for Amuru district concurs with the cultural Chief’s hint blaming high birth rate on early pregnancy.

“There is too much early pregnancy, high birth rate in Amuru district,” Olwedo told our reporter on Sunday.

He said there is between 5 to 7 children in a single home with many malnourished and unhealthy.

The DEO revealed that the district is currently partnering with Mariestops to offer outreach services and providing family planning services to the people in the district.
