Wakiso: State House health monitoring unit closes drug shops

On Wednesday 7, August 2019, State House Health Monitoring Unit dispatched a team of professional nursing officers to Kiira and Kyaliwajala all in Wakiso district to carry out specialized health operations.

The operations involved drug shops and health facilities pperating illegally and those falling short of the minimum, professional and medical standards.

The team visited eight of the health facilities and closed down three for lack of proper operational licenses, employing non qualified nurses and selling medicines not stipulated by the National Drug Authority in their licenses.

The affected drug shops include; Ronah Drug Shop in Kyaliwajala, Morben drug shop and Mummy’s drug shop.

The two drug shops that survived though with serious cautions and warnings from both inspectors in Sister Florence Awati and Sister Grace Edyegu include; Hope drug shop in Kireka and Mukama drug shop in Kiira.

The other three were found very compliant and the two sisters thanked them for sticking and adhering to the medical and professional standards, and following the NDA’s regulations.

The Wednesday exercise constitutes part of the mandated routine operations that the unit undertakes to ensure that the lives of People are safe guarded and protected from some scrupulous health workers, thus raising the bar in health service delivery.

The operations are expected to continue, and in other parts of the country.
