The political wars among Uganda Peoples’ Congress [UPC] party “past and present” leaders is back!
The political wars – now characterized with questioning the legality of the current leaders, especially party President, James Micheal Akena Obote, arose after “Ayuus” Secretary General, Freb Ebil Ebil wrote a letter dated 29, January, 2019 – summoning “former” leaders, among them Joseph Bossa – past party President, Peter Walubiri, ex Secretary General, Ishaa Otto Amiza, former Oyam South MP, and Fr. Jacinto Ogwal, former Otuke County MP to appear before the disciplinary committee on March, 15, 2019.
The four men, are jointly accused of contravening Article 2.5(10) of the UPC constitution 2008 as amended, by supporting non party candidates in 2016 general polls.
Now, UPC under Jimmy Akena, also the Lira Municipality MP, has summoned those “sabotaging their agendas” to a disciplinary hearing in which, if found quilty, they may be expelled from the party – this is according to Mr. Ebil’s letter.
However, Fr. Jacinto Ogwal – speaking to this contemporary online newspaper on Thursday evening, asked Ebil, “who’s Akena?”, “who elected him?”.
Mr. Ogwal went on to say: “They are the masquerading – pressure group opposing us and working with NRM party.”
“I can’t appear before them because they are illegal. Mr. Olara Otunu left the party to Joseph Bossa who’s the legitimate party President,” he added.
According to him, they [those loyal to Bossa] have all the legal documents to prove everyone wrong and “we have ever issued them to the media,” he noted.
Asked he has received a summon, the former Otuke County MP briefly said: “Please, I have told you my position, and I’m a true UPC member.”
Ishaa Otto Amiza tells this contemporary online newspaper also on Thursday evening that he was yet to receive any summon.
“How can I comment on what I have not seen? let me wait,” Mr. Otto says.
