ZOMBO – In a letter dated 19, August 2019, Zombo Tea Growers Cooperative Society Ltd’s chairman, Mr. Okello Jimmy communicated the society’s desire to work with The Edwin Foundation Tea Initiative Limited.
Titled: “Authority to work with the Cooperative Society and its members“, he wrote: “Following our earlier meeting with you at the district Farm Institute-Zeu and subsequent working together to showcase Zombo Tea at the just concluded West Nile Investment Symposium 2019 held at Muni University in Arua City, we allow you to jointly carryout the following activities pending the signing of formal Memorandum of Understanding.”
One, field management and existing tea fields.
Two, collaboratively work on proper tea nursery establishments, tea planting and management.
Three, building capacity of tea farmers and members.
Four, conducting comprehensive trainings on agronomic and good agricultural practices of tea growing to all tea stakeholders.
Five, value addition and marketing in tea value chain, packaging and marketing of green tea and other products.
Six, introducing and expanding tea growing in new places which are demand suitable for tea.
And lastly, any other areas demand necessary by two parties.
Speaking to this contemporary online newspaper earlier this week, Edwin Beekunda Atekunda, The Edwin Foundation Tea Initiative Limited director says he was ready to the tasks.
Mr. Atekunda added that his passion is to see every households in northern Uganda taking tea as one of the profitable enterprises to fight poverty.
Zombo Tea Growers Cooperative Society Ltd
According to available data seen by TND News, Zombo Tea Growers Cooperative Society Ltd is an organization for all tea growers in Zombo district. It’s formally registered with the Registrar of Cooperatives under the Cooperatives Society Act. It has over 140 members.
The Cooperative Society has been playing central role in mobilising, sensitizing and training its members and the people of Zombo about tea growing as well as working with other partners in implementation of activities geared towards the tea project development, chairman Mr. Jimmy Okello explains.
