Government of Uganda is demanding all residents of Kololo in Lakang sub-county, Amuru district to vacate land given to Madvhani for sugar cane production.
Auma Linda Agness – the Amuru Resident District Commissioner on Tuesday, during an engagement with residents still living within the project areas and have been compensated to immediately leave the land.
RDC Auma also warned those who are still cultivating and planting crops on the land, saying that “you will not be compensated”.
“Only harvest the ones in the garden but never plant any more crops,” she advised.
However, Ms Auma added that the locals should peacefully vacate the land to avoid fresh forceful eviction “by the Courts of law”.
According to her, the remaining 54 percent of the money is due to be paid in the next two weeks.
Okellomone Patrick, a resident of Payot village, Lakang sub-county in Amuru district asked government to give them time to vacate the land.
“We still have crops in gardens, we are willing and ready to leave once fully compensated,” he says.
Madvhani Group of Company is demanding for about 10000 hectares of land in Lakang sub-county for growing sugar cane and establishment of sugar factory.
About Uganda shillings 5.4 billion is reported used to compensate affected locals.
