Lango in diaspora, LPG to promote girl child education

Chicago, United States – The Lango Community in North America and the Lango Parliamentary Group have jointly resolved a raft of reforms intended to tremendously promote the girl child education in Lango sub-region.

The reforms whose full implementation starts next year, were passed on Saturday at the Annual Convention of the Lango North America Association, a meeting held at Chicago, United States of America.

In the reforms, the LACONA and LPG under the leadership of Hon. Betty Amongi who also doubles as the Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development will kick start an Annual Scholarships Orograms for best performing girls in Primary Leaving Examinations.

The first target will be nine girls, one from each of the districts in Lango sub-region.

In the coming year, LACONA also committed to support girls in schools around Lango with 5000 reusable pads to help keep girls in schools, especially those in upper primary.

The Chairperson of Lango Community in North America, Dr. Betty Odero who will also be the key contact person in North America for the pads project, says “this will be sustained as I am already in advanced stages of developing a mini factory for the production of reusable pads.”

The Vice Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group, Mr Paul Amoru Omiat called for more investments in the education of “our people and to further promote girl child education.”

According to Amoru, this initiative “will encourage many girls to stay in school and complete their studies.”
