Lira – On Thursday, Lango Cultural Foundations [Ker Tekwaro Lango] headed by His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii – the Paramount Chief held a meeting at Pacific Grand Hotel in complete defiance of rival camp of Dr. Engineer Michael Moses Odongo Okune.

A head of the meeting, Dr. Engineer Odongo Okune who is also the executive director of Uganda Road Fund  [URF], using his lawyer Okello Oryem of Okello -Oryem and Company Advocates, wrote to Lira Resident District Commissioner, Milton Odongo asking him to block the meeting.

“The purpose of this letter is therefore to immediately stop and in any event not sanction such  a meetings that are likely to degenerate into chaos in Lango,we also request you to set up a meeting as soon as possible  with his highness Dr. Engineer Michael Moses Odongo Okune,” Okune’s lawyer wrote on Wednesday evening.

Feigning ignorance on Okune’s letter, RDC Milton Odongo then told this contemporary news website that he was in Arua and referred us to his deputy who was not immediately available.

Dr. Richard Nam, the Prime Minister on Yosam’s side then assured clan chiefs that the meeting would go ahead as planned.

It should also be noted that Lira District Police Commander, Joel Tubanone had without a second thought, cleared the meeting.

Consequentially, on Thursday morning, loyal clan chiefs headed straight to Margarita Palace Hotel, the initial scheduled venue for the meeting only to be told that the meeting was shifted to Pacific Grand Hotel.

At around 11 am, the meeting at Pacific Grand Hotel kicked off with the presence of about 70 clan heads and presided over by Benson Dilla Oyuku, the speaker of Ker Tekwaro Lango.

Dr. Richard Nam was meant to deliver a speech but preferred it read for him by Shaban Alunga Atepo, the KTL’s state minister for planning and economic development.

Dr. Nam’s speech came up with ten key resolutions for adoption by the council of Owitong.

Firstly is that Lango Cultural Foundation leaders should schedule a meeting with President Museveni to follow up on unfulfilled pledges, including those put to him during the Lango Conference, held in 2012.

“We need to meet the President and demand for the construction of Akii-Bua stadium, Lira airfield and Masindi Port-Apac-Lira Kitgum road among others,” reads part of the Premier’s address to the Council of Owitong.

The resolutions were adopted by the council of Owitong notably controversial, Jurubabel Opio Okori of Atek Adok Oyengowoo clan.

The clan chiefs also resolved that Lango has only one Paramount Chief in the names of Yosam Odur Ebii.

Former Lands Minister bashes government.

Hon. Dan Omara Atubo – ex Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister, also the then Otuke County MP – currently the Otengoro Olang clan chief has criticized Museveni’s leadership.

Submitting at the cultural meeting, Mr. Atubo who in the early 90’s served under Musveni as state minister for defense lambasted the NRM government, saying it is responsible for the current squabbles that has overwhelmed Ker Tekwaro Lango

According to Atubo, government knows that its gazette bears the name of Yosam Odur Ebii as the substantive Paramount Chief yet the same government cannot restrain Dr. Odongo Okune from meddling with the affairs of Lango Cultural Foundation and its natives, and more so a civil servant working with Uganda Road Fund.
