Gulu: Over 50 ‘hooligans’ arrested during festive season

Police authority in Gulu town say they have arrested over 50 people following an operation conducted during festive holidays.

Emmanuel Mafundo – the Gulu district police commander confirmed the arrest to our reporter saying: “The arrest was made effective following intelligent report to police following high number of cases like pick pocketing, snatching of mobile phones, burning of tyres on roads, etc. This was so high among the street kids along Gulu- Kampala high way, major streets and other places within the district.”

Mafundo added that most of the people arrested are street kids.

“Out of the operation the police conducted, we found about 14 sticks of marijuana. This people will appear before the court of law with different charges which include possession of drugs, hooliganism and many other cases as the police continue with investigation and operation to stop the rampant phone theft and pick pocketing which is becoming so rampant.”
