LIRA- After spending five years on remand on allegation that he defiled a minor of 10 in 2013, Okori Jasper, 40 awaits final Court ruling on Thursday.
Okori, a resident of Amach Sub County, Erute South in Lira district was charged with aggravated defilement in 2013.
Appearing before Lira High Court Judge Justice Alex Ajiiji on Wednesday, the accused was further remanded to Lira government Prison until Thursday, 14 April 2018.
Prosecution told Court that on 30 April 2013, Okori who was 35 years by then defiled a minor who was proven to be only 10 years old by the time of shameful act.
It is also alleged that on that fateful day, the victim together with another girl identified as Cony Awor, a daughter to the accused had gone to the nearby bush to collect firewood.
During cross examination, Okori confessed to having intent to defile the girl but denied ever committing the said offence.
However, evidence from the medical examination presented in Court showed that the victim had bruises inside her private part which the Doctor concluded that it was as a result of rape.
Basing on facts already before Court, the State Prosecutor Gloria Akello prayed to Court to give a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail to the accused.
The defense Lawyer, Patrick Adar of Adar & Company Advocates concurred with the State’s prayer, however, Adar prayed to Court to give his client a lighter sentence, averring that the accused has already spent four years on remand.
After submissions from State and Defense Counsel, Justice Alex Mckay Ajiji adjourned the case to Thursday (tomorrow) to allow the Court Assessors give their opinions before his final verdict.
