Residents of Alebtong district and entire Lango sub-region will perhaps, and for the first time in their lives be treated to an open army court.
This follows a decision by the army court to make the trial “open and public” after their own soldier allegedly killed, using a gun the “entire family” following a land conflict.
Isaac Newton Odongo, a UPDF soldier attached to 405 Brigade of the 3rd Division in Moroto district is suspected to be behind the gruesome murder of his brother, his pregnant wife and a three year old kid.
The UPDF soldier allegedly stormed the home of his brother Emmy Okello on the fateful evening of 12, December, 2018 and shot him dead, and subsequently killed his six months pregnant wife, Betty Arao and their 3 year old child, Elvis Okello.
The bizarre murder happened in Okut village, Iyama parish in Aloi sub-county, Alebtong district.
Later, the UPDF soldier was frantically hunted by a joint team of security agencies in the district. He was arrested and the killer gun retrieved.
Addressing the media on Friday afternoon, Ms. Josephine Omara Olili – the Alebtong RDC disclosed that the hearing of the case against the accused UPDF soldier will kick off on Monday, 4 February 2019 in the district.
According to the RDC, the court will be open to the public at Aloi Boma grounds, and urged the community to turn up in huge numbers to witness the hearing.
The public trial into the gruesome murder is expected to start at 8.00am.
