The Gulu district chief administrative officer has promised good leadership on health, following the current loopholes in the health leadership in the district.
Milton Kato said, “As district we are gearing towards providing an excellently proper leadership for the health sector in the district starting from the level of local council ones and village health team to be functional as well as in position of tracking pregnant mothers so that they are capable of accessing the available maternal health care.”
This comes up during a meeting on health, maternal and newborn’s health at the district recently.
“We want to take up roles in every strategic intervention and help people attain a fine health service to the level of reducing the distance of the health units in the villages,” CAO added, citing that most of this health centers’ distance is between 7 kilometers to 5kilometers which is ‘really far but will reduce it to one and a half kilometer,’ he added.
He revealed that they want to increase income in the hands of mothers in the community to support them in preparation for delivery.
Mr. Kato, however added that they are working on how to increase more staffing in the health units to improve on the heath service since there is ‘a lot of workload on the available staffs more especially mid wives’ since every health center in the district has at least one mid-wife.
He further said that they are going to boost the staffing level from 80% to maximum of 85% staffing this financial year.
